As a young walker called Jack Anstey put it: “from here the tall pines frame Raven Crag mirroring images of Yosemite Valley in California, where vertical walls of light rock dominate every scene”. Raven Crag is a monumental slab of outstanding grandeur and beauty. It is hard, really hard, and not the softer limestone of Yosemite but composed of volcanic igneous rock. Nothing compares to standing at it’s base and staring up to see Falcons diving for their prey - an ecologically fragile place, climbers are barred from their activity during the nesting season. An early morning shot into the sun yields an image of good contrast and strength, hopefully to convey the power and strength of this, my most favourite and impressive place in the whole world!
